World-building doesn’t have to be overwhelming or something to shy away from anymore.

When writing a novel, it’s easy to fall into the trap of dumping 50 pages of lore, legends, myths, and other background details all at once. Some creatives might argue that this information doesn’t really matter.

But I beg to differ.

The details you create for your novel’s world are crucial — they’re what give your story depth, life, and complexity.

However, not all of this information will fit neatly into your novel, especially if it’s a standalone.
